Topic: Outlook on agriculture within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals
The objective of the workshop will be to discuss different pathways in agriculture and their relation to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are globally accepted as the components of a desirable world and provide a dashboard for the transition to sustainable development. These goals can also be seen as the means to a larger end with an overarching goal which is human well-being. The research assessing how particular agricultural types relate to SDGs has so far been scarce.
The workshop will include the presentation of a theoretical conceptualization of the SDGs. Followingly, a study relating small-scale farming to seventeen objectives of the SDGs will be presented. The Alentejo region in Southern Portugal, where the perceptions of various stakeholders were collected, will be used as a case study.
The third part of the workshop will consist of a discussion about the challenges for future research focusing on SDGs and agriculture.
