The aim of the project is to promote cooperation between employers, educational institutions and young employees.
Eurostat reports that there will be 9 million less of young people entering the labor market in Europe by 2025. Oversupply of jobs and an intense effort by employers to attract and retain talented employees are expected. The majority in the labor market at present is represented by the generation of baby boomers of the 1970s, generation X and generation Y.
Generation Z, 16 to 21 years old, is beginning or is preparing to start a career. This generation expects a well-paid and meaningful job. If they are not sufficiently motivated or do not agree with the employer's goals, they will easily leave their job. The self-evaluation of the upcoming young generation is high. Young graduates believe that they will be a significant asset to employers as a source of new ideas, fresh thinking, and also for their excellent knowledge of modern technologies. At the same time, they are aware of deficiencies in personal communication, conflict management and deadlines.
The project will harmonize the goals and needs of the two target groups: employers and members of the young generation Z. It focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) that are more attractive to young workers than multinationals and which also account for 99% of all European businesses.
The first intellectual output of the project will be a methodology for SMEs, including procedures and tools to create an attractive and motivating work environment. The methodology will be based on a detailed analysis of both target groups. It will provide guidance for employers on how to maintain competitiveness based on their workforce, how to manage the day-to-day work process and how to create development strategies.
The second output will be training of mentors to work inside of the SMEs. The mentor should facilitate the transition between school and work life and keep a young worker in the company. The aim of the training will be to create the necessary skills of the mentors.
The third output will be the training materials for Z generation members, focusing on practical skills that can not be obtained from the Internet, but require experience and personal engagement, such as assertive communication, teamwork, the ability to effectively solve personal conflicts.
Generation Z is the first truly digitally connected generation that is under the influence of global factors. The project will be attended by partners from different EU countries, South and North, West and East, so it will be possible to compare the situation in each country, share experience and find common ground.
The planned outputs will be based on an analysis of previously published knowledge and a detailed understanding of the current situation. Questionnaire inquiries will be conducted. Dissemination activities will focus on the target groups, the public and experts in each country. The prepared conclusions will be consulted with experts and members of the target groups. Most outputs will be presented and accessible in national languages and in English. Based on the lessons learned, training materials and mentoring training in partner countries will be organized.

The iGEN project of the ERASMUS programme, focusing on rationalizing cooperation between the current generation of people entering the labor market (generation Z) and employers, has just completed it’s the first half-year of works. The first phase of the project was devoted to an introductory meeting of the project partners participating in the project, where the agenda of the first half of the project was specified in detailed and agreed upon, and the individual tasks were assigned to the partners.
In the first phase, the project focuses on the exploration and questioning of representatives of Generation Z in three forms. Representatives of the generation Z were addressed using a questionnaire survey in which respondents' attitudes were identified with regard to their future employment in the labor market. In addition, the representatives of the generation Z were contacted and in each partner country several individual interviews were conducted, as well as group sessions, the course of which was recorded and analyzed. The first newsletter brings a more detailed description of the first half of the iGEN project.
