The agricultural community agrees that feeding the following two billion people by 2050 will require solutions that rely heavily on the innovative use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). A commonly used term for applying technological advances in agriculture is "Agriculture 4.0." In its Digital Transformation Monitor (EC-DTM) report, the European Commission concluded that 'Agriculture 4.0' represents a process that will have a revolutionary impact on the whole of agriculture and even on the global economy.
ITFARM promotes the idea that 'Agriculture 4.0' has the potential to change things across a broad spectrum of society: It is here and now, and schools, farm owners, farm managers need to be ready. Old methods and practices are no longer enough, and the young will be the first to embrace all aspects of "Agriculture 4.0" and all opportunities. The project will provide entrepreneurship training on family farms based on the integrated digitisation of business and production processes following the challenges of "Agriculture 4.0".
In the ITFARM project, based on a survey, study materials will be developed, and courses tailored to owners, managers and employees of family farms and businesses will be provided to integrate the latest ICT technologies and concepts into daily farming practices. The learning portfolio will consist of a curriculum and teaching manual, syllabus, learning modules developed as units of study. ITFARM will speak the language of farmers, SMEs and will be user-friendly for them.
It will also support VET teachers to train future employees and owners of family farms and businesses, emphasising talent scouting. The project will reinforce green elements in existing VET curricula.
