The relationship of people and society has been the education focus of the department already since 1990. It prepares future professionals to contribute on solutions to the vast range of problems the Czech (but not only) rural areas (including agriculture) are facing.
The knowledge offered by the department helps graduates to find jobs in rural and regional development, public administration, non-for-profit organisations and in any other institutions or businesses concerned with the development of our society. Subjects prepared by the department are the core subjects in the study programme Public Administration and Regional Development. Further it support the doctoral candidacy in Regional and Social Development.
The scientific research of the department is traditionally concerned with the field of rural sociology and the current focus is on the study of rural and regional development through social sciences, including philosophy. The academic staff of the department has been successfully participating on Czech and EU projects, such as GAČR, CORASON, COFAMI, CERTCOST, FARMPATH or OrganicDataNetwork. The department sustain strong partnerships with a number of Czech and foreign universities and scientific institutions.
