3 reasons to study ITB:
You enjoy international affairs and international business
You want to study applied economics under the guidance of experienced practitioners
You want to understand how the economy works in a global context
In today's interconnected world, economic decisions are influenced by many political, social, and cultural factors you will learn to understand. In particular, you will study the connected global economy and the institutions involved in its formation and functioning. You will be able to understand the role of national governments and supranational bodies and examine how different economic and trading systems affect people's lives in both developed and developing countries. You will learn how individual local economies fit into the global economic environment.
You will study international trade, the relationships between foreign investment, innovation, and multinational companies, and business skills used in international trade. In most of the courses, you will also meet practitioners in the form of invited lectures, giving you insight into the practical application of the issues discussed. The knowledge and skills from the studied subjects are intertwined and complement each other. The study programme is primarily based on a personalized approach, which enables students to develop their preferred competencies, especially in relation to the topic of their thesis.
The study program is taught in English and thus increases the competitiveness of graduates in the labour market, their ability to communicate with business partners abroad and, moreover, increases their tolerance to cultural differences.
Classes are led by experienced teachers, researchers, and external practitioners, such as:
prof. Ing. Lukáš Čechura, Ph.D., is one of the most prominent experts on agricultural economics in Central Europe and works as an expert for the FLA network OECD and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. He is also the researcher of several top European projects.
prof. Ing. Luboš Smutka, Ph.D., has long been involved in foreign trade issues and is a coordinator for the Centre for International Studies of Rural Development at the Faculty of Economics of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. He also acts as an expert guarantor in the Uniqway carsharing project.
doc. Ing Lubomír Civín, CSc., served as a member of the board of directors for Česká Spořitelna, as well as director of Factoring of Česká Spořitelna and EU Phare for the Czech Republic and as president of the Czech Factoring Company. As part of his practice, he specialized in the financing of foreign business operations.
doc. Ing. Irena Jindřichovská, CSc. worked as an auditor in the banking sector in companies such as Société Générale Komerční banka and Société Générale Prague Branch. After leaving the commercial sector, she focused on academic activities and worked at major universities abroad (the University of Wales Aberystwyth, University of Buckingham).
doc. Ing. Vladimír Krepl, CSc., has been involved in the issues of developing countries with a focus on development aid for a long time. He has worked as a project manager for UNIDO Vienna, Austria, and as an expert for FAO UN. Furthermore, he was a researcher for development projects at MIT and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, where he worked.
As a graduate, you can apply your knowledge in the manufacturing, service, business, government, and financial sectors. You will primarily find employment in the trade, investment, and strategy management sectors related to developing external economic relations at business and public administration levels. Our graduates of similarly oriented study programmes have in the past achieved important positions, such as PMI (executive director), TEREOS (general director), UNILEVER (sales director), and HOPI holding (member of the supervisory board).
